Good morning everyone!
After diving into dictionaries, some questions to get the discussion going:
Think about your own research (current or future) - would dictionary methods like LIWC be useful for you?
If Yes - What would you want to measure? (emotions, leadership style, authenticity, etc.), Are there existing dictionaries that measure what you want to?
If No - What's missing? (need context, too static etc.)
If maybe - What's holding you back or making you unsure?
Quick example:
For my study on how male vs female leaders describe similar situations, I'd want to measure agentic (commanding, decisive) vs communal (collaborative, supportive) language. Dictionary methods maybe could work because I care more about content/words used to describe behaviors than context, and there are existing agentic/communal dictionaries.
Your turn: What questions you might have about applying this to your own research? Feel free to ask any clarification questions or think outloud here in the comments.
