Scale Construction

Dr. Lauren Locklear

Texas Tech University

Workshop Overview

The session on scale construction will focus on the three basic steps of scale development, as summarized recently by Lambert & Newman (2023): defining the construct, operationalizing the construct, and generating evidence of construct validity (Define-Operationalize-Confirm). In doing so, the course will cover recent developments and updated best practices for creating concept definitions (Podsakoff et al., 2016), content validation approaches (Colquitt et al., 2019), and scale adaptation recommendations (Heggestad et al., 2019). Common questions, challenges, and missteps will be addressed.
