5th Annual QCA Conference of the Americas

When: March 18-20, 2026

Where: University of Cincinnati or Virtual

The QCA Conference of the Americas (AQCA) provides a venue for the broad, cross-disciplinary community of researchers and practitioners working with configurational-comparative methods and approaches to gather together to present and receive feedback on current research projects, share theoretical and methodological developments, and discuss new directions in configurational-comparative research practices. Bringing together the diverse set of QCA empirical and methodological researchers, AQCA offers a supportive environment for the community to meet, engage in dialogue, network, learn, and collectively move forward on advancing the configurational-comparative perspective.

QCA Trainings

Wednesday, March 18, 2026

On Wednesday, we will offer three QCA trainings:

  1. Introduction to QCA w/Claude Rubinson (University of Houston-Downtown) and Roel Rutten (Tilburg University)
A day-long ground-up introduction to Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and fuzzy sets designed for those who are newer to QCA and/or wish to refresh their knowledge. This workshop focuses on the analytic foundations of the method and its distinctive ontological and epistemological perspective. By the end of the workshop, you will understand the types of research questions that QCA can and cannot answer and will be able to design and execute research projects using QCA.
  2. Basic R Training w/Adrian Duşa (University of Bucharest)
A half-day (morning) introduction for those without previous experience with the QCA for R package. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to conduct a basic QCA using R.
  3. Advanced R Training w/Adrian Duşa (University of Bucharest)
A half-day (afternoon) advanced training for those with prior experience with the QCA for R package, and those who have completed the morning’s basic training. Get answers to all of your most pressing questions about the QCA package for R by its author, Adrian Duşa. Professor Duşa will provide detailed procedures of how to perform QCA with R, and discuss alternative methodological solutions to various research situations, using the latest developments in the R package, in both written command and the embedded graphical user interface.
